When a parent’s fight for their child became part of a larger investigation into special education

When the Atlanta Journal-Constitution looked into failures in Georgia’s special education system, our story was one of many. I shared it because parents deserve to know they’re not alone, and because sometimes the only way things change is when someone refuses to stop asking questions.

That experience is what pushed me to write Roar at the Table—not as a reaction, but as a resource for parents who need language, clarity, and confidence when advocating for their children.

Why this story matters

The investigation highlighted how systems meant to support children can instead silence families. For us, it meant being outvoted, dismissed, and told to accept decisions that did not serve our child’s needs. For many parents, this experience is not rare. It is routine.

This coverage helped bring attention to the emotional, legal, and procedural challenges parents face when advocating for appropriate education and services.

These are the moments from the investigation that captured the heart of the story.

From Experience to Roar at the Table

What you read in the article is real life. The confusion. The pushback. The moments where you walk out of a meeting wondering how you were just told “no” without anyone really listening.

That experience didn’t just stay with me. It changed me.

Roar at the Table came out of those moments. Not as a reaction, and not as a rant, but as something practical. Something parents could actually use when they’re sitting across the table, trying to advocate for their child while keeping their footing.

This book and workbook are meant to help you:

  • Walk into meetings prepared instead of overwhelmed

  • Understand your rights without needing a law degree

  • Find your voice when the room feels stacked against you

  • Advocate clearly, calmly, and confidently

I wrote this for all who ever felt dismissed, talked over, or left carrying all the weight alone, you are never alone.
